....Yet the bowels work oh so quickly in times of exertion. With supplies wanning and hunger pangs growing, the Warriors set out in search of vittles. To their dismay, they found that this land was highly taxed-- governed by the laws of supply and demand. So, with much regret they traded 32 gold coins for a meager ration of Rice-a-roni, chunk light tuna, pasta and canned tomato sauce. While Sir Philius wasn't looking, Sir Benirium bought his weight in snickers bars and accordingly found his panniers much heavier and his wallet equally lighter.
The sun hisssed as it began to settle into the pacific. The warriors had ridden not but 20 miles since it rose. They looked at eah other and decided without words: "Tonight, we Ride!" Fifity red and white strobe lit miles later they found a free tentsite with 27 fellow cyclist. The group was riding from Vancouver to Mexico in an attempt to raise money for the great bank of Kiva which grants micro loans to entreprenuers in developing countries. [Riding to Break the Cycle. www.kiva.org www.globalafc.org]
The next day, our heros "rested" by riding 40 miles through the hilly terrain of Big Sur. They spied more cycle toureres than they had fingers, that day. That night they shared a tentsite with a man who had ridden across the country in 22 days-- fueld by bagels and trucker speed.
They awoke late the next morning anticipating a 30 mile day. Nonethless, their legs got the best of them. Though they set out at 11 of the clock, their masocistic bodies, hungry for pain, compelled them to ride 75 miles to Santa Cruz. They did so with lightening speed.
And thus they spent two nights and two days in the home of Lord Brinker where they were treated like gods and fed Granola, Pasta, Pizza, and sweet ambrosia in the form of kambucha. They picked flowers and made lovely boquets for the homeless garden project-- a toil for which they were compensated by yet another feast. With much joy, they rode their unloaded steeds all around santa cruz-- they drank coffee with hipsters, braved the Cave of Fern, and saved a baby seal from certain death.
Preasently, Sir Philius pours over the Maps. The plan has new developments which require our attention: A 70 mile dirt road on the lost coast (Sure to be defended by dragons); a side trip to portland (sure to be defended by hipsters on fixies); and a new route through ther olympic penninsula (sure to be defended by Zeuse himself!). We will keep you updated, honerable reader! Please pray for us! Godspeed!

(Note: The app for uploading photos on blogspot sucks, so please see our facebook photo album coming soon. There, you will be the first mortals to seee the canve of fern and the baby seal... and so much more.)

A long thin shouldered road

Our two warrior left the hot springs early one morning. As they crested their first challenge presented in the form of a 2.6 mile long hill that they gave sweat and carbon dioxide to overcome they found a pack of four fellow bike warriors two of which were also battling their way to the great land of Vancouver. For 2 and a half days the our now six warriors laid down the undead blood of asphalt and other materials used to make roads. They were a wonderful group. Honorable warriors, they carried several kinds of cheese and a plethora of other delectable treats. With frequent stops and a high intake of human fuel (food and water) our warriors traveled many miles. As there clothing became soaked through with the sweat and blood of asphalt and car exhaust their bond grow thick. It could only be broken by a act of God striking down the faithful spring of the front derailleur. No longer being able to battle in different front gears and embarking on the most well trained and hilly section of road yet to come, our four brave warriors turned south to find a bike armory located 5 miles post. Thous their honorable bond was severed as the metal tab of the faithful derailleur spring fell in the trails and tribulations of hundreds of miles fighting the good fight. Facing the lowering sun and many miles to come our two fearless warriors set off north, encouraged and well fed.

Sleeping on the beach

Hey everybody, Ben and I are sleeping on the beach tonight not really supposed to be here but with luck the life guards won't come by. We are about 80 miles from San Diego now. Left yesterday and road 50 miles to Oceanside CA. Stayed with another really great couple named Mark and Sara. We left them around 11am our time road down the ocean bike path for a while till we came across a group of slackliners stayed there for 3 hours or so, talking and playing. That ate up a lot of the day but whatever we got no place to be. Right after we left we ran into Bike Across America, which turns out is a race from here to Maryland the fatest dude will do it in 9 days sleeping only 2-3 hours a night. Anyway tomorrow it's on to LA we think, not to far from there now. Hope everyone is doing great we love you all.

HI everyone! This is my first post on our blog. (Ben) Phil's allready pretty much summed it up, but i thought i'd say hello. Above Cedar Creek Falls-- the spot we hiked to yesterday.

Anyway I am psyched for an epic journey. It's started out amazingly-- mostly thanks to our couch surfing hosts Matt and Kim. I got to jump of a cliff into an oasis on my first day! That's got to be a good sign... Nonetheless, I'm itchy to get on my bike. It looks so beautiful-- calling to me from across the room. The road is ahead and the everywhere is my home.

Peace and Love ~Ben

Kickin it in the SD

We are still in San Diego. Hangin out with Matt and Kim. Really cool people. Matt recently road 6500 miles across the country. Yesterday they took us you out to this amazing water fall about 1.5 hours from SD. It was basically in the desert. We walked for two miles through rock and sand down this mountain until we came to this oasis with a 90 foot water fall and this incredible pool at the bottom. There was a rope swing and rocks to jump off of. It was great. Today we have been packing our bikes and getting ready for tomorrow the journey begins. We'll keep in touch, good thoughts y'all.

The Start of our Journey

Well this is the first post of many to come, Ben and I have our stuff together and we are leaving our respective states (Ben=New Hampshire) (Phil=Missouri) tomorrow June 16th. We are starting our journey from San Diego, CA. and ending in Seattle, WA. Ben will be getting here around noon time, and I will be in around midnight. We found to cool people to stay with named Matt and Kim, they live not too far from the airport. Ben and I are both couch surfers and we are going to be surfing our way up the coast. We found a bike shop that is 3 miles from the airport that we shipped our bikes to early last week. They are cool with us shipping them the bikes and then us putting them to together there. The bike shop is San Diego Bike Shop, (sdbikeshop.com). Check them out they seem like cool people. I've got some pictures of my stuff that I will be putting up latter.
Wise us luck,
Ben and Phil
